A major HS2 milestone was achieved in mid-July when the contractor for Euston terminus moved onto the site to begin work. The new station features a new concourse, new platforms and better connections for Euston and Euston Square Underground stations. Piling work for the basement wall of the station will begin shortly, in advance of large-scale excavations and substructure work next year. It's expected that during the peak some 3,000 people will be working on the site - equating to 10% of the staff working across the entire route. Mace Dragados was appointed as the construction partner in March 2019. "The progress in our work comes at a good time, as we help to support the British economy and construction sector as part of the post-pandemic economic recovery, creating new jobs and providing contract opportunities," said HS2's Euston Area Client Director Laurence Whitbourn.
