One example cited by NR Chief Engineer Andrew McNaughton of the way a better understanding of the interfaces between train and infrastructure can drive down whole-life costs is the tram-train concept, which appears to be gaining momentum within Network Rail. NR Chief Executive lain Coucher told the HLOS conference on November 27 'we are starting to see people make choices to travel based on green decisions, and it need not add cost as well'.
