Regulated fares on the national network including season tickets and longer-distance off-peak fares are to rise by 6% with effect from January 2 2009, based on RP1 of 5% as of July 2008 plus 1%. The exceptions are Merseyrail and Southeastern, where indices of RP1 + 0% and RP1 + 3% respectively give increases of 5% and 8%.rnAccording to the Association of Train Operating Companies, the average rise in unregulated fares will be 7%, ranging from O% at London Midland to 11% at Crosscountry (right). As well as helping to pay for major investment, ATOC says the increased revenue will 'deliver better value for taxpayers in line with government policy to reduce subsidy to the railway by 40% between 2006-07 and 2013-14'.
