Punctuality continues to improve with the national MAA score rising slightly in Period 7 from 90.5%to 90.6%, although performance fell slightly from 92.4% in Period 6, writes Tony Miles. Only two TOCs failed to achieve performances over 90.%, and FGW and NXEC continue to rise up the table after a long period at the bottom earlier in the year. A small group of operators continues to jostle for top spot, with Chiltern returning to the top despite sharing its route with a large amount of diverted traffic at weekends whilst West Coast Route Modernisation work continues.rnDisruption on the WCML and in particular the continuing unreliability of signalling and points continues to damage the performance of both London Midland and Virgin Trains, with Virgin Chief Operating Officer, Chris Gibb, commenting to RBI 'As a TOC we are performing extremely well, our TOC-on-self delays continue to fall, but the fact that well over 80% of our delay minutes are attributed to NR shows the enormity of the challenge that we, and NR, face as we head rapidly towards December 14 and the start of the VHF timetable.'
