Howbury Park marks planning breakthrough for terminals

Rail freight campaigners have attached huge significance to the decision by Hazel Blears, Secretary of State for Communities Et Local Government, to overturn Dartford Borough Council's rejection of a planning application by Prologis to build a Strategic Rail Freight Interchange on green belt land adjacent to Slade Green depot. The original application was lodged on August 9 2004 against a background of frustration caused by the refusal of planning permission for Argent's well-founded proposal to build the London International Freight Terminal, close to the M25/M4 junction. This prompted SRA to produce a policy document setting out the need for up to four SRFIs around London, but until now none had been approved.
