Providing details of the allocation of the additional £50m to be provided for station improvements (RB1355 p6), Transport Minister Chris Mole said on November 26 that Network Rail would take the lead in deciding the proportion to be spent on each of the bottom 10 Category B stations (right). Although NR will allocate the money, the projects will still have to be approved by DfT.rnMole added that station projects would need to make 'a satisfactory business case and the prospect of an adequate financial return'. DfT will also 'challenge the industry and local government' to raise part of the money required.
