Scottish Review Backs Electrification

Although a new Forth road bridge costing ￡2.34bn along with many other highways projects dominate the Strategic Transport Projects Review presented to the Scottish Parliament by Transport Minister Stewart Stevenson on December 10, there is a very substantial rail element as well.rnThe review by Transport Scotland covers the next 20 years. Rail accounts for 14 of the 29 projects listed, but several are general such as 'maintaining and safely operating Scotland's rail network'.rnWhile Airdrie - Bathgate reopening and electrification is clearly a done deal, Stevenson did stress that 'current capital plans' included 'work on the delivery of the Borders Railway and the Glasgow Airport Rail Link'.
