NR tests third rail heating

Heating strips are being installed at 42 locations across the Kent Route by Network Kail to prevent ice forming on the conductor rail which can stop trains from drawing traction power. By the end of 2010 heating elements are due to be tested at sites between Grove Park and Hastings and on the Ashford - Maidstone route, with similar projects planned elsewhere on the third rail network in Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire.
