Urgent discussions are underway between Centra, Cannock Chase Council and Staffordshire County Council in a bid to save the half-hourly off-peak London Midland service on the Chase Line between Walsall and Rugeley Trent Valley. The weekday service is reported to require a subsidy of ￡7-18 per passenger, and Centro believes that most of the subsidy, equating to around ￡290 000 a year, should come from Staffordshire residents rather than the council taxpayers of the West Midlands.
