Announcing results for 2009 on March 9, Eurotunnel reported a small net profit of €1.4m following a 25% drop in shuttle revenue, mostly due to the loss of lorry traffic but also to the major disruption suffered by Eurostar over Christmas. In 2008 when operations were disrupted by the shuttle fire on September 11, net profit was €34m.rnThe principal factor in 2009 was road hauliers signing contracts lasting a year or more with ferries during the period when one-third of the north running tunnel was out of service until February 9 2009. This business has still not fully recovered againstrnthe background of a drop of 20% in lorry movements between the UK and the continent due to the recession.
