November 12 saw the elimination of a significant bottleneck that has restricted the capacity of the increasingly important intermo-dal freight route between the Port of Felixstowe and the East Coast Main Line at Peterborough, and more importantly the West Coast Main Line at Nuneaton (RB1389 p3). This was the 10 mile section between Bury St Edmunds and Kennett signalbox, which retained semaphore signals and was worked on the absolute block system.
