East Coast is due to issue a tender document at the end of October as it considers options for the long-term future of its rolling stock fleet. The tender will cover not only the life-extension of HST sets to 2018 and of 1C225S to 2021, but also 1C225 replacement or longer-term life-extension. Still to be finalised with Agility Trains, DfT's 1EP order makes provision for replacing the East Coast HST fleet. Hitachi's Super Express Train has also been suggested as an 1C225 replacement, although withdrawal under 1EP of this fleet of 31 Class 91 locomotives and 30 sets of Mk IV coaches has been seen as premature.
