Nuneaton North Chord contract

Network Rail has awarded Atkins and Balfour Beatty a contract to build the Nuneaton North Chord, a £28.3m project co-financed by NR, DfT and the EU's TEN-T programme. It follows completion of works to provide the W10 loading gauge from the Port of Felixstowe to the West Coast Main Line at Nuneaton. The 1-4 km North Chord will allow trains from Felixstowe to cross over all four WCML tracks by using the recently-restored flyover carrying the Birmingham - Leicester line. At present, most freight moves between Felixstowe and the WCML via the North London Line, where the frequency of passenger services has been stepped up in preparation for the Olympics.
