NR unveils plans to transform London Bridge

Plans for a major transformation of London Bridge station are due to go on display from May 16 as Network Rail starts consultation on work scheduled for 2013-18 to deliver Key Output 2 of the £6bn Thameslink Programme. A planning application is due to be lodged later this year for work to accommodate a two-thirds increase in the number of passengers as well as 18 Thameslink trains/h in each direction, all of 12 cars. The weekend of the Royal Wedding saw Borough High Street closed for three days while a 71 m span weighing 1 200 tonnes was moved into position next to the existing railway bridge. A further road closure on May 7-8 allowed the job to be completed.
