The Commons Transport Committee is to examine the strategic case for the HS2 programme and has invited written evidence to be submitted by May 16. It will not deal with the local impact on individuals or businesses which will be addressed by the hybrid bill committee in due course. As consultation on the HS2 programme continues until July 29, DfT ministers are making the case for high-speed rail across Britain. 'Yorkshire really would be one of the big winners from our proposed network', said Transport Secretary Philip Hammond last week, when Transport Minister Norman Baker highlighted 'significant benefits for Scotland' during a visit to Glasgow.
