Tramlink seeks more vehicles

TfL subsidiary Tramtrack Croydon Ltd has published an OJEU notice inviting bids for the lease of up to 10 new or secondhand vehicles to increase capacity on the light rail network from the end of summer. Applications to prequalify are due by February 21. A new service is planned to run between Therapia Lane and Elmers End via central Croydon, and this will require five trams in service for a minimum of 12 h a day, Monday to Saturday. According to the OJEU notice, the additional trams will operate approximately 75 000 km per year, and are needed for 'at least 10, but not more than 20 years'.
