Announcing results for the six months to September 30 2012 on November 7, FirstGroup pic reported 'strong growth across all of our franchises', with revenue at the UK Rail division up at £1 296-4m from £1 162-2m the year before. Operating profit was down at £35-4m from £55-7m, reflecting the three-year extension at First TransPennine Express with 'an operating margin closer to the industry average'. 'We saw strong demand from historic highs of passenger numbers across all of our TOCs with like-for-like passenger revenues increasing by 8-1 %', said First-Group. At First ScotRail 'passenger-journeys reached record highs of 81 million, an increase of 3O°/o since we took over the franchise'. Passenger-journeys at FTPE had grown from 13 million to 25 million since 2004, 'driven by service and timetable innovation, improved yield management, customer service excellence and marketing'.
