Wakefield Westgate on show

Plans for an £8-1m rebuild of Wakefield Westgate were on public display at the station and Wakefield Council headquarters last week. Work is due to start by the end of this year for completion in December 2013. Funded largely by DfT's Station Commercial Project Facility (RBI421 p4), plus £1m from the English Cities Fund, the project involves the construction of a new station building offering 'better retail facilities' as well as a new footbridge equipped with lifts. Ticket gates are to be installed 'to improve passenger safety and combat fare evasion'.
