TfL is expecting a 60% improvement in escalator reliability under a contract worth £190m awarded to Otis, covering the supply of at least 50 escalators for the LU network as well as equipping the Crossrail stations between Paddington and Whitechapel. According to TfL, 'the joint procurement will also realise significant cost savings of up to £65m over the 30-year contract that would not otherwise be achieved if separate, smaller orders had been placed'.
