Presenting a report on reducing costs at DfT on March 13, Public Accounts Committee Chair Margaret Hodge MP was highly critical of the fact that 'rail budgets aren't being reduced as much as other areas yet passengers still face higher fares. The department needs to understand why the cost of rail travel is so high, and understand better what scope there is for further efficiencies', she said.
