MPs find £1bn underspend at DfT

In its report on DfT spending in 2011-12, published on February 23, the Commons Transport Committee criticises a lack of clarity from the department when explaining why changes had been made in planned expenditure without any indication as to how these affected the overall DfT budget.The MPs cite the 2011 budget when £300m of extra DfT spending was announced, comprising an extra £200m for rail projects, plus £100m more for road maintenance, closely following an extra £100m for this purpose announced in February 2011.
