Legal challenges emerge

The 51M group of 18 local authorities opposed to HS2 is preparing to mount a legal challenge to the government's decision to proceed with a hybrid bill to build Phase 1 from London to the West Midlands. The group sent a letter to the Transport Secretary on February 7 nominating five different grounds which it would cite as justifying a judicial review, although a 51M spokesperson refused to tell RBI what these might be.Nonetheless, 51M says that 'the whole project represents extremely poor value for money for the hard-pressed UK taxpayer and it is right that we challenge the government's decision to progress with this misguided scheme'.
