Whilst the section between Castle-field Junction and Ordsall Lane Junction has been energised, the main section of Phase 1 of the Northwest Triangle electrification scheme, between Ordsall Lane and Newton-le-Willows Junction, is not now expected to be energised until November 23, marking further slippage in the project timetable. The scheme was originally planned for completion by the end of September, but industry insiders suggest that whilst the speed of the installation of support structures was good, progress with wiring has been poor and a worrying level of uncompleted work and installation faults has been discovered.
