Drivers at First TransPennine Express are balloting over a strike or action short of a strike in a dispute over rest-day working and the length of the working week. Results of the ballots being conducted by ASLEF and RMT are due on October 18. Negotiations have been ongoing since August 2012 and, with drivers refusing to work rest days, the TOC has cancelled around 1 000 services since May 2013. FTPE has sought to avoid rest-day working but needs the additional flexibility it provides. It is also recruiting '20 to 30' additional drivers to support its May 2014 timetable (p4).
