Detail thin on flexible ticketing trial

On September 16 Transport Minister Norman Baker announced that DfT is to run a competition next year to select a TOC to run a 'flexible ticketing' pilot on a 'busy commuter route into London'. According to DfT, once roll-out of the £45m South East Flexible Ticketing smartcard scheme (RBI445 p5) is underway, discussions will start to identify a suitable route and products for the trial. Details of the trial will be developed with the successful bidder, but options quoted by Baker included discounted tickets for those travelling during the 'shoulder peak' and the introduction of flexible season tickets for those who work part-time. Both are long-standing features of SEFT.
