Following DfT's announcement that the deal had entered the mandatory 10-day standstill period (RBl440 p1), Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin confirmed on June 27 that Siemens plc and Cross London Trains had been awarded a £1.6bn contract to supply 1 140 EMU cars foT the Thameslink route. 'This contract is a boost for UK plc, delivering jobs and injecting crucial investment into the rail industry', said McLoughlin. 'This is just one of many rolling stock orders in the pipeline which is both great news for other suppliers and the wider economy'.
