Transport Minister Baroness Kramer has confirmed that the government has accepted the recommendation by the Law Commission and the Scottish Law Commission that level crossing law should be reformed. The majority of the specific recommendations for change have been accepted, and the remainder are to be reviewed. In particular, DfT agrees with the recommendation that safety at level crossings should be brought entirely within the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. According to the law commissions, this will make it easier to regulate level crossings, and will make the law clearer for those responsible for ensuring safety.
