Newton Aycliffe to host Hitachi design office

Speaking during the topping-out ceremony for the vehicle manufacturing facility in Newton Aycliffe (RB1473 p1) on October 30, Hitachi Rail Europe Managing Director Keith Jordan announced that, once completed, the new plant would also house the UK design office established by the Japanese rolling stock manufacturer. The office currently comprises four design engineers working from another site in Newton Aycliffe, and recruitment to take the full complement up to 12 staff is now underway. Initial projects include interior design of Hitachi AT200 EMUs, including those ordered by Abellio for the replacement ScotRail franchise (RB1472 p1) which are to be built at the Newton Aycliffe plant.
