Five-car Class 378 in service

The first London Overground Class 378 EMU to be lengthened from four to five cars entered service on November 6, having been unveiled at New Cross depot by Deputy Mayor for Transport Isabel Dedring and TfL Managing Director of London Rail Mike Brown. Each of the 57 Class 378s is receiving an extra trailer car from Bombardier to accommodate an additional 170 passengers. Under TfL's £320m programme to increase capacity on electrified London Overground routes by 25%, the lengthened EMUs are being rolled out on the East London Line, with subsequent deployment on the North and West London lines due to be completed by the end of 2015.
