Work begins at Norton Bridge

This week sees the start of major construction work on the new flyover at Norton Bridge, following the granting of a Development Consent Order for the project by the Secretary of State for Transport on March 31. This is the third and largest element in a programme of enhancements to raise capacity on the West Coast Main Line around Stafford. Being delivered by the Staffordshire Alliance of Network Rail, Atkins, Laing O'Rourke and Volker-Rail, the £2 50m programme is due for completion by the December 2017 timetable change. According to Staffordshire Alliance Managing Director Ian Jones, the works are currently several months ahead of schedule and around 10% under budget.
