Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin has announced that DfT is providing £2-5m to take the project to electrify the route between the East Coast Main Line and Hull to Stage 3 (option selection) of NR's GRIP process. 'That notification will be going to Network Rail and 1 will write to colleagues today to tell them that 1 am making the money available', he told the House of Commons on March 20. First Hull Trains has proposed to deliver this project in joint venture with Amey, using debt finance to undertake electrification. Upon completion, the assets would be transferred to NR's Regulatory Asset Base at an agreed price and the original loan debt repaid.
