Electrification of the Preston -Blackpool North route, previously scheduled for commissioning by December 2016 (RB1492 p3), has been pushed back to mid-2018. In an e-mail seen by the Blackpool Gazette, NR Route Managing Director, London North Western, Martin Frobisher has said that final commissioning is 'likely' to take place prior to the summer holiday season in 2018. 'We recognise that it's important to protect Blackpool summer holiday traffic and detailed plans are being developed to make sure that this is achieved', said Frobisher.
