In a message sent to staff on November 5, Network Rail Chief Executive Mark Carne outlined the next stages in the current reorganisation of NR, which will see the routes determining the future of some central services. Scotland is also separated from the current route organisation, with Managing Director Phil Verster reporting directly to Carne. Restructuring last year 'clarified and sharpened' accountability between the eight Route Managing Directors and the central organisation, said Carne. NR was now 'looking closely' at the current central change initiatives, with the aim of focusing 'only on those that the routes believe will both enable them to hit their targets and which they have the capacity to implement'.
