Network Rail's programme of track renewals on the Great Eastern Main Line, involving the use of high-output plant in overnight possessions during the week, entered its second phase on May 19 with the deployment of a high-output ballast cleaner between Colchester and Shenfield. With one line out of service and trains required to pass worksites at reduced speed, an amended Greater Anglia timetable is in force until mid-October after 20.30 on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, as well as on some Sunday mornings. This line is one of the busiest rail routes in the country and this upgrade is absolutely vital in our plans to deliver a more reliable service for tens of thousands of passengers', said NR Route Managing Director, Anglia, Richard Scho-field. 'With this technology, we can renew the railway while trains are still running'.
