Difficult start for GTR

Since it began operating the Thameslink, Southern ft Great Northern franchise on September 14 2014, Govia Thameslink Railway has had to grapple with a number of infrastructure issues, predominantly track and signalling problems on the Brighton Main Line. There were also an unprecedented number of fatalities in the first eight weeks of operations, which particularly affected the GTR PPM score in periods 6 and 7 of 2014-15 (p4). Infrastructure issues continued throughout periods 8 and 9, particularly on the Thameslink route, which as GTR notes was 'consistent with the downward trend in performance over the previous 1 5 months'. An alliance with Network Rail was launched to deliver an investment programme to address the worst-performing assets.
