East Coast in a 'good,solid place'

'It's been a brilliant journey', East Coast Managing Director Karen Boswell told RBI as the Intercity East Coast franchise prepared to return to private hands. After 5'/2 years under the control of DfT subsidiary Directly Operated Railways, 1CEC will be operated by Virgin Trains East Coast from March 1. Soon after joining East Coast in 2009, 'I realised nobody had been running this company on more than a two-year business plan since 2000', said Boswell. Because 'you can't run a £750m a year business in two-year bursts', this led to the implementation of a five-year plan, 'which proved to be really useful because it was intended to support the business through to the share sale'.
