With resources diverted to tackle delays to the Great Western Electrification Programme, industry insiders are concerned that Network Rail will be unable to complete enhancements in northwest England in time for major timetable changes at Northern and TPE in December 2017. NR told RBI that it was 'currently working to the delivery dates outlined in the enhancement delivery plan'; upgrades were 'subject to ongoing assessment and investment decisions to ensure that maximum value is derived for passengers and taxpayers.' Eurotunnel announced on September 29 that GSM-R had gone live for communications in the Channel Tunnel, the result of a six-year project costing a total of €48m. Project partners include Nokia which is responsible for 'supervision and maintenance' of the communications network and Siemens which supplied cab radios and driver interface equipment for Eurotunnel locomotives.
