On August 30 DfT issued the ITT for the replacement West Midlands franchise, where 'key benefits' will include longer trains to accommodate 20 000 additional passengers into London and Birmingham during the morning peaks. Responses are due by November 29 from the shortlist that comprises London Midland incumbent Govia as well as Abellio bidding with East Japan Railway and Mitsui (RBI508 p4).
