SSL ATO makes progress

Testing has started of the SelTrac IS Radio moving-block CBTC which Thales is supplying for London Underground's Sub-Surface Lines under the £760m contract signed last July. What LU now calls the 'Pour Lines Modernisation' programme is expected to increase peak capacity on SSL by 33%. LU Systems Programme Director Stuart Harvey says the target is to run 32 trains/h each way on core sections of the Circle Line, against 24 today. Bombardier is due to complete delivery of the 192 S Stock trains this year, followed by the installation of CBTC on 314 track-km by 2023. Thales has established a temporary control centre at Old Dalby, together with a full set of lineside equipment to control the 5 km test track used foT S Stock commissioning. Onboard equipment has been fitted to one seven-car S7 trainset.
