In addition to development funding for major projects such as High Speed 3 (below) and Cross-rail 2 (p7), and a £500m contribution to the Cardiff Capital Region City Deal (bottom), Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne announced in his Budget of March 16 that an additional £5m is to be provided to develop options to improve the resilience of the railway between Newton Abbot, Dawlish and Exeter. Supporting the interim report of the Peninsula Rail Task Force, the government will 'fully consider' the recommendations made in PRTF's final report 'when it is published in June.' The government is to allocate £4m to support the development of High Speed 2 Growth Strategies for Manchester Piccadilly, Manchester Airport and Leeds stations. It will also support a proposal for a Knowledge Quarter in the area around the future Birmingham Curzon Street HS2 station.
