In a letter dated November 30, the Head of DfT's Transport & Works Act Orders Unit informed the agents for Blackpool Borough Council that the Secretary of State had decided to make an order enabling construction of a 600 m double-track branch of the Blackpool Tramway from North Pier to Blackpool North station. Blackpool Borough Council says that the extension 'is expected to be completed and opened in 2019'. The £22m cost includes the acquisition of two additional Bombardier Flexity2 trams to operate the extension and 'cope with the extra passenger demand'.
