GBRf enters Southampton

Realising what it describes as 'a long-held ambition' to operate container services from a second deep water port, on November 1 GB Railfreight ran its first service from Southampton under a five-year contract awarded by Wincanton. GBRf reports that 34 fully-loaded platforms left the Solent Stevedores terminal for Hams Hall in the West Midlands at 02.39, carrying consumer goods for 'major high street retailers'.
