Perpetuum wireless sensors powered by energy harvesting are to be installed on the ScotRail Class 334 EMU fleet to monitor wheel bearing condition. Following a pilot involving three trainsets, all 40 three-car Class 334s are now to be equipped this year. In its first deployment at ScotRail, the Perpetuum condition-monitoring system is expected to deliver a 25% increase in bearing life. At present, Class 334 wheel bearings are replaced every 600000 miles.
