Brexit 'positive' for wagon sector

The opportunity to abandon TSIs as the UK leaves the European Union and potentially revert to less onerous national standards is being welcomed by some companies in the wagon leasing and manufacturing sectors. 'It is for me one of the positive outcomes of Brexit', VTG Rail UK Ltd Managing Director Rob Brook told RBI. Contributing to a panel discussion on the implications of Brexit at the Rail Freight Group annual conference on April 26, Brook said 'we've got a real problem with standards'. Adopting European standards had added 'no value at all, just costs', he felt, and had been 'a waste of time' as '100% of my wagons don't go outside the UK.'
