Ordsall Chord milestone

Network Rail announced on February 21 that 'a major landmark' had been reached on the Ordsall Chord project in Manchester, with the successful lifting into position of 'Britain's first asymmetrical network arch railway bridge' to span the River lrwell. Designed by Peter Jenkins of architects BDP, in conjunction with WSP, AECOM and Mott Mac-Donald, the 89 m span weighing 563 tonnes was built on site and then moved into place by two large crawler cranes in a tandem lift. This is thought to have reduced completion time by five weeks.
