Greater Anglia Class 170 upgrade

On January 31 Greater Anglia announced the start of a refurbishment programme for its Class 170 DMU fleet. Under a contract awarded by Porterbrook Leasing which is spending £5m on the project, work is being undertaken by Arriva Traincare at its Crewe facility. The eight three-car and four two-car Class 170s are receiving new carpets and refurbished seats with new cushions, backs and covers. Heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems are to be refurbished and plug sockets installed to enable passengers to charge mobile devices and laptops.
