Hanford Grqundwater Contamination Areas Shrink as EM Exceeds Cleanup Goals

Workers supporting groundwater cleanup for the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Environmental Management's (EM) Richland Operations Office at the Hanford Site, near Richland, Wash., have exceeded a fiscal-year goal to remove 3500 lb of carbon tetra-chloride from groundwater under the center of the site. EM-funded contractor CH2M Hill Plateau Remediation Company (CH2M Hill) is responsible for monitoring groundwater and removing contamination from it. As of June 1, CH2M Hill had removed 4300 lb of carbon tetrachloride.
