The fast depleting petroleum reserve and the ever-increasing cost is attracting even more serious attention to the industrial utilization of biorenewable raw materials in the chemical industry.Organic coatings are an important sector of the modern chemical industry. However, traditional coatings contain a significant amount of organic solvents and other volatiles. The coatings industry has been identified as second only to the gasoline-automobile complex as the largest source of the volatile organic compound (VOC) pollutants that are responsible for excess ozone in the air.
