PUBLIC AWARENESS OF RADIATION SAFETY IN THE PEACEFUL APPLICATIONS OF RADIATION AND RADIOISOTOPES

Opening Remarks by Chairman Peaceful application of radiation and radioisotopes could broadly be divided into two categories, viz., applications for nuclear power generation and for non-nuclear power, such as, medical use (e.g., diagnostic radiology, nuclear medicine and radiotherapy); industrial radiography; nucleonic gauges; radiotracer applications; x- and gamma irradiators. The panel discussion will be restricted to these applications only. It is known that these two categories of applications are licensed practices and are well regulated. Safety in these practices is well established.
