Sensitive CaSO_4:Dy and CaSO_4:Tm thermoluminescent (TL) phosphors, meeting the criteria for TL dosimetry, were produced using the mineral gypsum (CaSO_4.2H_2O) of Iran. The results of the optimisation of concentrations of the activators dysprosium (Dy) and thulium (Tm), the temperature of acid during activator incorporation, and the temperature and the duration of oven thermal treatment and their effects on the sensitivity of prepared phosphors, as well as results of the minimum measurable dose, the thermal and optical fading, and the self dose of the phosphors produced are presented and discussed.
